Before: Because this dining room is elegant, warm brown wasn’t the best choice. Moreover, the color contrast of the ceiling and inlay molding made the space look smaller and too busy…

After: A dark gray (we chose Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal HC-166) contrasted by white molding and ceiling gives this room a crisp, sophisticated look that is on trend for today’s dining rooms…

These colors didn’t showcase the elaborate moldings or compliment the color of the hardwood floors. Again, there is too much contrast with the crown molding and wall space, making the room look dark and busy…

Simple fix: We painted all the molding and paneling Benjamin Moore Decorators White CC-20, a perennial classic and designer favorite and paired it with Benjamin Moore Abalone 2108-60 to create a bright, crisp, elegant dining space…

Make a grand entrance! Contrary to common belief, you don’t always have to go with a light color when selling. If the room is large or has high ceilings and gets lots of natural light, we often recommend a dramatic color that will highlight the room’s architectural details. Before…

After: we chose Sherwin Williams Griffin SW 7026 for this grand, two story foyer. We love this color because it’s a rich, dark gray with a hint of brown making a bold statement. Moreover, it’s the perfect contrast with the tile floors and white trim…

Choosing the right paint color when selling your home can be daunting. You have to factor in the natural light, room size, ceiling height, molding & paneling detail (or lack thereof), and flooring. BUT, we have some simple tips when selling your NJ home:

1. Greys, light to dark are hot right now!

2. Ceilings, molding & trim should always be white for a crisp, clean look.

3. You can use darker, bolder colors when you have lots of white paneling & molding, tall ceilings and/or lots of natural light.

4. Flat paint yields a cleaner, crisper look and hides wall flaws making it our choice when selling.

5. Cooler colors (blues, whites, grays, sage) are trending right now making them your best bet when selling.

6. Most paint stores have a light box allowing you to see the color in daylight (shows truest color) , incandescent light (brings out warm tones) and Florissant light (casts a blue tone).

7. When in doubt stay within the same color family to create subtle or bold variations.

8. Always consider the bigger picture when choosing paint colors – how will it look with the trim, floors and adjacent rooms?  Tip: paint cardboard cutouts and lay your color choices next to each other on the floor to to make sure they marry well.

9. When in doubt hire a professional NJ home stager for a color consultation before you hire a painter.
